I also read that there are 2 different heads with the same casting number...

The 10077626, 14099064, 10240209 or 10238181 castings were used, but be sure to check them over carefully because there are two versions of the 10238181 and 10240209 castings with an important difference. In ’92 and ’93, they came with an 8? top angle on the intake seat and a 75? throat, but that was changed to a 30? top angle with an 80? throat in ’94. Separate the 8? heads from the 30? heads and use them only on the ’92 and ’93 engines.

I dont know which one I have nor do I know how to check them..

Is the mechanic replacing with new or recondition heads and installing all for $600.00?

Cracked heads can not be repaired. They are toast

If he is replacing i personaly think its not a bad deal!

Just to have a set of heads redone is around $200.00

The question is......why do both of the heads have cracks....If its freeze damage i would be checking the block/manifolds/risers ect......

Good Luck!

Ok i see....You took the heads to the mechanic to have them checked....right?

$600.00 to repair cracked heads....I think the mechanic is on crack! The only way to repair them is by welding or JB Weld and i wouldn't go there.

Need new or redone good heads...You can buy them and install yourself for less than $600

90 percent of the time.....when a marine engine head cracks....is becouse it was improperly winterized and it frooze!

I think you have bigger issues with your motor than you think.......

Tell us the whole story and we can point you in the right direction.

Re: Outcome on my 4.3 Heads Please help!

When I bought this boat it had a weird knock which the guy didn't know what was wrong and he ran it for 2 years with it knocking... I took apart the motor to find what my issue was and I found that it had a bent rod along with a sheared off stud... Got that all fixed ran great then I took it out on the water and the carb over flowed and I had to crimp the tube that supplies the gas to rear of the carb... That wasn't a big issue just rebuilt the carb then I found this new knock that showed which happened to be due to low compression hence me taking the head off again just to find out the carb had sucked a valve... The mechanic said $320 to get valves replaced... Then he came across a crack in the head... Im hoping this is the only issue its really concerning me that it can be worse than it is....

I was looking at buying these..

Will they work????

The Vortecs are good for 'bout a 20hp, Increase...

Better check your fuel pump..Thats an overflow tube to prevent a ruptured diapham from dumping fuel into the bilge....

I think the OP meant the equalizer tube that runs from the front bowl to the back bowl on the single fuel inlet 1810 style Holleys. That is how I took it anyway.
