Have a slight problem, I have a 1990 Celebrity Mercuiser motor Alpha One outdrive. In idle with the steering wheel straight ahead there is no noise, you turn the steering wheel either right or left and there is a very loud bearing type humming noise. Also when you are driving the boat at just about any speed and you adjust the trim up the noise goes away, I have heard that it is the U joint in the driveshaft but I wanted to get some other input on this problem. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Re: OUTDRIVE/DRIVE UNIT NOISE

Sounds like Ujoints to me. Probably because of water in the bellows. I would sure get the drive pulled and checked out ASAP.

Sorry Im not too familiar with outdrives, what are the bellows and what would cause water to get in them??

they get old and then get small cracks that you might not even see and the water does the damage

http://www.mercstuff.com/howdoi.htm

if you read through this you will understand the different parts

tommays
