Outdrive gasket question

Hi:

I just pulled my outdrive (2007 Alpha one II) to check the bellows, alignment, etc. I know I should have done it in the fall but I ran out of time. Fortunately, everything was fine.

When I put the drive back on, the outdrive gasket is bowed out on the port side. It looks to be next to the water passage o-ring, so it seems to be pushing the gasket out when the bolts are tightened. I used the Quicksilver gasket set.

My question is am I at risk of a water leak that will cause me problems later on or am I being paranoid. Obviously, I don't want to redo the job but will if needed.

thanks in advance

Re: Outdrive gasket question

That shouldn't happen, I would guess there was a piece of the old gasket still on there. Time to pull it apart and look.

Re: Outdrive gasket question

Thanks, Don, that's what I was afraid of, but it was worth asking. One thing I did notice was that the o-ring seemed thicker than the one that came off, but I thought it had just compressed with time. I did use the correct kit (27-94996Q-2), I checked the reference twice. The other question is that the manual calls for 50 ft/lb on the outdrive bolts which seems awfully tight.
