outdrive gear case flushing?

Hello,

I have the gear oil drained on my DP-SM drive and wondered if anyone has ever used a solvent to flush out their drive case unit before refilling with gear oil? Seems like a good idea to me to clean out the gear case.

Wouldn’t think you’d need to, unless there were signs of any contamination. Years ago I had water in a 290. I flushed it out with diesel.

Why would you need to flush the drive unless you have contamination. Then the drive must come apart
