when removing the lower you can easily handle it by using a rope tied to the upper.
This way, you'll never drop it, or have a mess. It is exactly at the right level to work on it.
Level of Effort: 40 minutes.
put in forward gear
collect tools
place floor mat (pizza box good for this)
drain old oil into oil container
remove front and rear upper-lower bolts (different count for different legs)
tie rope as noted in attached picture
undo side bolts
split halves upper-lower
push to the side
dismantle the water pump cover....note how the neoprine pump is bent in the space.
put aside all old gaskets and orings
get new neoprine pump, use tie to pull splines together.
grease inside ONLY
use soap to help putting the neoprine pump into space
reassemble using new gaskets, new orings (as needed), and gasket helper (these are cheap, so do it right or complain to your moma about a failing geartrain)
reassemble in reverse.
