Outdrive not engaging

Both. Shavings from the upper contaminate the lower. CW is that it's un-flushable without a rebuild once that happens, though I don't know that first hand...

Yep, shavings go thru the drive like bad mexican food.......with similar results

I have a se106 gen2 in mine currently. Will a older model aplha 1 work in its replacement. I guess the ones made before the one I have. It came off the same motor and hp that I have.

I found one that is the exact same as mine. Just can’t get it til next Saturday because it’s a hour and 45 min away. But that’s ok lol. So does that have to be aligned when I put the new one back on or can I just attach it back on put the 6 nuts back on and then the hydraulic hands.

You need the right gear ratio,.....

Yes it came off the same year and motor. 3.0

Make sure you verify the gear ratio. Then prior to installation, do all the maintenance:

Bellows
Check alignment
Check gimble
Replace raw water pump
Pressure check drive
Change gear oil

Then install drive

How or where do I look to see what gear ratio I have?

turn input shaft, count output shaft turns is easy. you should have a 1.94:1 gear ratio with a 3.0

or count gear teeth.

My gears are completely shredded and sheared off to try and count. If the outdrives are the same model and came off the same year and motor would it be safe to say they are the same gear ration?

Yes. YOURS should be 1.94/1.98. replacement off a 3.0 should be the same, but you can count to make sure

your current one is toast. I was talking about the new to you drive. make sure its the correct ratio. most have a sticker on them, however if they dont, count the revolutions BEFORE you buy it.

Question about this alignment tool. I slapped some grease on it and slid it into engine. I pulled it back out and there were no spline marks on the tool. Does that mean that the alignment is good?
