I have a 1983 228 merc. Alpha 1 outdrive. So far this year everything has been running great. I check the Outdrive oil after every trip. Looks OK. The Upper half of the outdrive is developing a white chalky residue on the top 12" of the outdrive.<br />I run Merc. High Perf oil in the drive. Everything has been running ok. I've heard that the white chalky residue is a sign of an overheating outdrive. Any Ideas?? Is this normal? The outdrive was repainted 3 years ago when it was rebuilt and resealed. I have put about 4oo hours on it since then. Its primarily used for trolling. Let me know
