Hello,

I just picked up a 20' Starcraft "American" cruiser I believe was manufactured in 1975. The hull is fibergkass and it is powered with a 165 Mercruiser straight six and a merc outdrive. The motor has a serial # of 4330809 and the outdrive S/O is 4192675.

I have not had this boat on the water yet but the motor sounded smooth and the LU shifted into forward, neutral and reverse without any problems. Except for some trim/tilt issues the set up seems good on shore.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of motor and outdrive and are there any precautions I should take before I take the boat for a ride? Is there anything in particular I should do before I venture out on the water. Any information about the o/d would be most welcomed.
