outdrive serial #'s

I have a 1971 Gulfstream I/O straight 6 and on the out drive on the left side facing the back there is a tag that reads serial number but no numbers are punched on the tag. Where else would I find these numbers? Help

You may be able to remove the decal and see the number stamped in the casting. I don't think there's any other place they put them on the drive. There may be serial numbers for the engine, transom assembly, and outdrive on a red sticker on the valve cover.
