'77 OMC electric shift behind a 302.Think I fried the lower unit.Yeah,I know,not only a stringer,but electric shift to boot...but a great boat otherwise!

If replacing a high profile OMC outdrive with a low profile would cause cavitation, would replacing a low unit with a high one give you more torque and reduce speed, which could be offset by changing the prop?

It looks like I can install my tru-course steering parts in the new(older) unit and remove the outside cable system.Any suggestions?

I didn't see this topic addressed directly in archives. This is a great venue, thanks for any input!

(The girlfriend said,"If you don't get your boat running, what will we do on the 4th???So she bought a waverunner...)

never seen it done, but suspect the boat would plow nose heavy and probably not get on plane..steering might be unpredictable and heavy

smart g/f! :)

Re: outdrive swap

Dang...I have access to several used outdrives, but all of them are high profile.Anyone out there have a good used LOW unit for a 190hp?
