Is this acceptable? I have had the outdrive off for bellows replacement and she slid right out, I put a new O-ring on the driveshaft and it happily slid right into place so i'm just quessing the alignment through the coupler is good. Do you think the transom bracket could have been crooked from the very start of this boats life. I really never noticed it until I was polishing out the gelcoat around the transom and it cought my eye.

I would bet that it has always been that way. Grab the skeg and try to twist the housing bracket on the transom. If it moves you have a bad transom problem where the transom has gotten soggy enough to let the transom bracket bolt holes wallow out!

But I bet it's solid. I would think being tilted like that would help it turn right a little better than left, but probably not enough to notice.

Thanks for the input, oh yea everything is solid as a rock, I've not had the boat long enough to really get the feel for how it handles I bought it in August and trailered it to the lake 4 or 5 outings so it's all still pretty new to me.

is it off center to? or is that the rub rail that's just off center??? with omc's put together like that, it's not surprising they are out of business.

Not off center, if you look up to the tow ring you'll see it's just the rub rail bridge off center.
I really don't think it was any fault of OMC, it would be the idiots who assembles the boat don't you think. I've grown up with OMC's my dad was a great OMC fan back in the day, If he was still with us I'm sure he'd still love his OMC's.

OMC only sold engine and drive systems, they didn't build the boat and install it.
The boat manufacturer got one crooked. Happens all the time.
You have 2 choices.
Run it like it is or
Pull the engine and transom shield, rebuild the transom, cut a new hole and reinstall everything back in.

That would not have been OMC's fault.

OMC did not install sterndrives in boats.

The actual boat manufacturer would have done it.......What kind of boat is it?

Someone was in a REALLY big hurry when it was installed!!

You could fix it but it would entail removing the engine, drive and gimbal.....which is probably what I'd do because it would drive me nuts just knowing it's crooked!!

[edit] Don is a much faster typest then me!!
