CCREW THANKS AGAIN. MY CABLES CHECK GOOD.<br />MY PROBLEM: THE OMC OUTDRIVE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR FORWARD. I PULLED THE SIX NUTS OFF OF THE STUDS ON THE OUT DRIVE AND SLIDE IT AFT. I THEN PUT THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE TO EXPOSE THE CABLE END BUT I CANT GET THE END OF THE CABLE OFF THE LINKAGE (?) TO REMOVE THE OUT DRIVE. ANYONE KNOW THE SECRET TO RELEASE IT SO THE OUTDRIVE WILL SEPARATE FROM THE KNUCKLE?<br />THANKS<br />HD1

I dont know if omc is the same but mercruiser has to be in fwd to remove and install o/d. Charlie

I had to rotate the pivot housing around the cable to get mine unscrewed.

Ok what type of drive do you Have ? If it's a regular cobra you remove the 6 nuts and remove the pin to the rams and pull it off , it don't matter if in fwd. or rev.If you have a cone style King Cobra After you do as above and slide the drive back, on the port side you can see a plastic slider. There is a role pin you must slide out to remove drive. If you have a joint venture Drive Or SX remove the rear cover and disconect the little brass anchor from the shift linkage, unscrew it from the cable and remove the drive as above.<br />P.S. Don't use caps all the time ,it means your YELLING.

Thanks Richard,fka,****. Im a fng to this site. Your info sounds like it is what I needed to know I'll give it a try this P.M.<br />My OMC Cobra is a 1989 Model in a 21 ft. Bayliner, had been doing great until the last launch. No evidence of leaks or other problems.<br />Thanks,<br />HD1
