I was looking at a thread where 1946Zepher posted a link to a ebay adv. for a motor that was very over priced IMO and his.

It reminded me of an ad I saw on CL recently.

I have a 1957 Johnson Sea horse Antique boat motor. It is ALL ORIGINAL and in immaculate condition. Also it is a 5 1/2 horse power. The motor runs great and is still fully functional. This is a Collectors item. It comes on a stand so you can use it as a show piece. I am asking $1700. if you have any more questions please call 616-xxx-xxxx and ask for Chris. Thanks

Just plain crazy I bought my running '59 CD-16 5.5 for $100 with a working pressure tank. Fuzzy pic and not quite showroom, but that leaves me $1,600 to clean and paint it.



Thought it might be fun to see some of the outrageous, crazy, silly or down right stupid solicitations for selling outboards. Not trying to insult anyone, just having fun.

gee....wish that vintage/rare fuel tank was closer.....id jump on that deal!! :facepalm: lol

maybe i could trade something.....i do have a vintage pair of nike sneakers, well used but rare!

Maybe he really loves that old '57 Johnson and not serious about selling it!...Maybe his wife's been on his case about "gettin' that darn old outboard motor out of the garage", he agrees to try and sell it, but jacks the price up above the market....then he says, "hey dear, I tried to sell it, but no takers".....all just a ruse to appease mama and get some peace at home!...who knows!

$25 for the old metal tanks is not out of line, and collectors/restorers will pay that for a good 2-hose tank. Not to say you can't get them cheaper at yard sales, etc. but that takes time.

If that was a two line tank, it wouldn't be for sale any more. I just think the seller is trying to make it sound like some truly vintage collectible, like a piece of pottery or something.

I have lots of vintage stuff, IMO, others call it old junk.
