433387 would be much better - see the 1983 parts catalog. It bolts directly to the block and takes the pulse without a third hose. You have to remove the plug and block the one used for the VRO pulse line.

Would the 433386 give me enough fuel though? Where is the parts catalog I can look at? Not quite sure what you mean by pluging the VRO pulse? I haven't taken it apart yet, so not sure.

I wouldn't use the 433386-it's used on the 30 hp units. It won't flow the fuel you need. Take Ezeke's advice and go for the 387 pump. If you lay both pumps side by side you will see the difference on the hose barb sizes.

I would certainly go with the correct pump. You need to be able to pump the required fuel volume for your size motor.

You can identify the pulse line on the VRO pump by the pulse limiter, and follow that line. The other hole has two smaller tapped holes adjacent to it for the screws to hold the lift pump.

OK, it looks like there is a hose nipple coming out of the block now for the pulse for the VRO pump. So I take that nipple off? And the new pump gets mounted there?

I'll see if I can get the 433387.

How did you come up with the 433387? I'm looking at 82-82 Johnson 115 parts and all of them come up with a 0388268.

And just so I'm 100% clear. after I take off the old VRO pump, I take off the hose nipple in the block? Then the new fuel pump gets bolted to the block there?

When you look at the parts list on the BRP/Evinrude site, it will list the original part number. Clicking the magnifying glass above the part # will list the superseding numbers if any.

If you were to find a pump # 0388268 it would be very old stock as that pump has been superseded several times by newer versions.

The pulse line connects to the engine at the intake manifold. Close that hole and open the one above it, then mount the pump and gasket with two screws.

Hmm, maybe I'm doing something wrong then, I clicked on the magnifying glass beside the part number, and a little window pops open, and shows the same part number.

Still confused about where that pulse line is then, maybe I'm looking at something else, but there is a nipple on the block that has a hose off it that runs to the fuel pump, I'm assuming that is the pulse line? Is it not? I guess I'm gona just have to take it apart and find out! I'm sure I'll see when I take it apart and all what you have said will become apparent.

Yes, sooner or later you will probably get your hands dirty. In the meantime, the best current lift pump for your application is # 433387.

Great, thanks allot for all the help. Sorry for all the questions. I finally got the thermostats all back together, so now I can focus on the fuel system. I'm also installing a spin on water separating filter, got it mounted and the lines run from it to both motors, now just need to run a line to the tank, then I'll pull the pump off, got to go back to the marine place tomorrow to return this pump and hopefully get another. If they don't have the 433387 is there an alternative?

0433387 is a current listing, so any authorized dealer should be able to get it for you.

If the outlet nipple on the 433386 is metal, you could replace the current outlet nipple with part # 335233, which is the larger size, then use the VRO pulse line. You would also need to fashion a way to mount the pump.

Ya its metal. Wouldn't be to hard to mount the pump. I'll try for the other pump though.

Ok, I pulled the VRO unit off. I take it this is were the pump will mount, just take the nipple off here and bolt the pump on?

Finally got the new pump mounted today, just been so busy doing other things. Its a tight fit in there getting it on and the lines attached, for the outlet facing up, I seem to need to run a bigger loop of fuel line then I'd like so it doesn't kink, maybe I should get some of that flexy stuff, or run a brass elbow. Hopefully I'll get it running tomorrow. I also put in a spin on water seperating filter now as well, never had one before, and now can run 2 lines off of that one to the main and one to the kicker, so now I don't have to swap the line from the main to the kicker.
