Over heat issue

Mercruiser 2.5L starts but overheats. Can’t figure out why. We deleted the thermostat and still gets gets hot. We had motor muffs on and the system was getting water. Thinking maybe the water pump but can’t find if there are any other common issues.

The raw water pump is in the drive. That needs to be replaced every few years

Take the hose off the thermostat housing where the water comes up from the drive bet you have little to no incoming water flow.

Get a impeller and kit with body (assuming you have a Alpha gen one drive) , OEM merc is best.

yes the new days are the impeller and the product is that component breaking down the impeller component material today ..
also the impeller is no using a water issue running the engine ...
