Re: over heating engine at idle

I had the same problem overheating at idle. I changed everything, then found out by taking the drive off sticking a garden hose in the water intake tube, and then go squirted in the face because there is a copper tube that connects the hose from the back of the bell housing and the goes throught the transom to the other end. That copper tube was rotted. Check yours maybe thats the problem.

What was the condition of the upper housing and pump base of the raw water pump in the drive.

New engine? Of what type? Was this a total tear down or buy it from somebody? Yes, the risers could, BUT! Not an idle. Check the assembly of the "thermostat Hsg"!

Re: over heating engine at idle

im going with riser gaskets, you probably need the four slot, especially if you have riser blocks

Re: over heating engine at idle

post a picture of your cooling hoses and how they are routed from the thermostat housing, include a shot of the thermostat housing so we can iD it. I have seen some with your problem that were plumbed wrong after replacing the engine.
