Over Heating????

I bought a used boat with a 2006 115 Merc EFI. The engine has around 20 hours at the very most.
When I brought it out for the first time for a 1 hour run the temp gauge went to 3 quarters of the way over. One tick past the centerline. Is this abnormal? No alarms went off and the engine ran great. Maybe I am an alarmist but i noticed in my cars that the pin never goes past the centerline.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Over Heating????

Thar seems about right, the actual temperature can be tested with a thermo-melt stick very easily.

Thanks for the reply.
Are you saying that if the pin goes one tick to the right of the centerline its OK?

Re: Over Heating????

As long as the engine does not overheat. All electrical gauges act on resistance which is varied by the sender and the gauge only reacts to the change. Many other things effect that resistance, wire size and length, the connections at the wire ends and temperature. These are just a few so as you can see NORMAL can vary from gauge to gauge.
