We think we over reved a 155 evinrude commercial. Spewed blue smoke, we shut it down. Now it turns over and sputters then dies out.
Had about 1/4-1/2 tank of oil.

Had 120-130 compression as of last week so it WAS pretty strong.

anita. recheck your compression this week ,blue smoke is too much oil being burned ,so if its not making any strange noises when turning over i would suspect your oiling system is pumping to much oil to the engine.

Not sure tach is broken. But it sounded WAY wound. Which is why we shut it down.
Well of course the starter motor died. So thats in for a rebuild.
But we were able to rope pull it over, we got 2 different compression testers. The one read consistant 30lbs. on all six. Then the other read consistant 100-105 on all six with a rope pull only.
So i guess we have hope that A it over oiled and is fouled out. B it just needs to be primed.

You should be fine. I've had motors break a propshaft or driveshaft and the motor rev up high enough that it would not shut off with the key. Once I shafted it, the powerhead was fine.

That reminds me, I gotta rebuild one of my starters.

Good luck!

Makes me wonder how the new 4 strokes will hold up to overrev with all those extra parts in there.

They wont. Thats why the rev limiters are set like they are.

Good thought!
