It was a dark and stormy night...
Actually it was beautiful this morning, but the water was very choppy. We were finished skiing and wakeboarding for the day, and making for the dock. Our usual plan is that either my wife or daughter pulls up to the dock and I jump off quickly to go get the trailer. My daughter was driving, the chop was murderous, and she was really having a hard time getting me close enough to the dock without the stern coming around to shallow water. I was rocking and trying to maintain my balance in the bow while reaching with the boat-hook to make another grab at the cleat. Another boater seeing our distress came down the dock to lend a hand. About the time he got ahold of the boat hook, more chop threw me off balance. Time slowed down for an instant, and I had enough time to assess the situation and decided the safest course was to go with the flow and into the water rather than lunge back toward the boat and possibly bang myself up. I shouted, "HERE I GO: WHERE'S THE CAMERA!" I came up out of the water to see my family and the good samaritan having a hearty belly laugh at me, the 240lb soaking wet doofus. It was an embarrasing ending to a good day on the lake.
