My father had "stored" for 34 years a Chrysler 20 HP that I have been using in my restored Boston Whaler Sport 11, that has overheated twice in the past to the point that the sleeves and pistons are scratched due to an ill seating heavy duty water pump and or a water pipe grommet that was getting loose.

My mechanic and I replaced the back plate, and tested again, the motor was cool to the touch. Went to the lake last Sunday and had the greatest of times and the motor felt like nothing was amiss. However, after the second time it overheated compression was below the factory recommended 125 psi at 100 psi on #1 and 95 psi on #2.

In the mean time I found the ring and gaskets in New York, the pins in Missouri, the pistons, main engine seals in Texas and Missouri and they would re-sleeve in Costa Rica very inexpensively. There was a complete working powerhead in New York but I would rather re-sleeve back.

This is a motor that is overall in as new condition and I would hate to let it go yet, I am into recycling and conserving not throwing away, and since this motor is a "gross polluter" I only use the correct 50:1 gas to oil ratio and use the best TCW-3 motor oils there are.

The mechanic recommended me to use it until it broke a piston ring, then to overhaul it and since it is in a small boat with very little free board, he believed that I was not going to do offshore cruises, and that I would not end up in Honduras or in Hawaii against my will.

Should I overhaul now or wait not that I have all the parts?
