Overheat alarm on 85hp O/B?

I've been reading a few threads on overheating & was wondering if my 1985 85 HP O/B should have one of these alarms on it. I just replaced the Factory flat dash panel with a nice 1/8" thick oak piece that I stained & sealed, looks nice, the plastic factory one was all bubbled from the sun & lack of care from the orig. owner & I didn't notice any alarm under the dash. Should there be one? What will it look like? I just had the impeller changed, not that it wasn't working, but just to be sure it is new.

I have a 125 but they should be similar. My overheat switch is mounted on the block to the left of the spark plugs. You should see a little rubber boot inserted in the motor with a ring pin holding it in place and one wire coming out of the center. If you have this then you should have a piezo buzzer under the dash or somewhere else.

On my 125 it's under the dash at the ignition switch.

I took another look under the dash when adding a few LED interior lights & did see what you are describing near the ign. switch. Now, how do I know it is working? Is there a way to test it? I'll need to go to that other overheating thread. I think he was asking the same question. Thanks, MAXX

Turn on the key.Take a lead with aligator clips.Hook one clip on the motors connection panels orange wire.Then ground it out anywhere on the block.It should make the alarm go BUZZZZZZ.. J
