Overheat alarm only at WOT

I have a 1989 40 Hp Mariner with oil injection. I get an overheat alarm when running at WOT after about 2-5 minutes. As soon as you back down on the speed it goes away. Water pump was replaced a few months ago and I am getting good flow. Any suggestions?
