Overheat alarm

I get this piercing alarm when I have to idle for a long distance. Last weekend was the first time it has gone off while going down the lake but, I had been tubing the kids for a long time also.<br />The water coming out of the pee hole is always cool even when the alarm sounds.<br />I've checked the impeller and it looks like it is in great shape, no nicks, no signs of damage.<br />When the alarm sounds the motor bogs down bad so I shut her off and sit for awhile.<br />I've noticed the wire coming from the thermostat has been spliced together. Not crimped or taped just twisted together.

Baja18<br /><br />I would be for fixing the splice correctly. Even if it does not fix your problem it could not hurt. I know we are talking boats, but I had a similar problem with a farm tractor. The temp. warning light was coming on, but the tractor did not seem to be getting hot. I found that the wires had been spliced in the same fashion that you describe. I fixed the splice and it took care of the problem. So it stands to reason, at least to me, that this might take care of your problem as well.<br /><br />Trp251

I fixed the splice. Still got the alarm this weekend. Same deal, leaving the marine at idle speed. We were probably at the marine for more than 30 minutes before we left.<br />I checked the thermostats and they both open and close fine.<br />What to do, what to do??
