Overheat buzzer question for the Pro's

Last summer I tried to troll with my 85hp force 1988, I trimmed it up to the trim tab. Vents still in the water but the alarm went off 5 mins later. Is this normal for a Force or do I need to replace the impeller soon? Runs fine idle full out when trimmed all the way down. This Force is new to me.

With the lower to close to the surface the prop can create to much turbulence so not enough water is being pumped to the motor. Impeller should be changed every year and if you do feel like its not pumping enough water then change the impeller. Its a cheap fix and 1-2 hr long project.

I have 2 85's, one 72 and one 89. Neither will pump water from a barrell, but on the muffs do just fine. I replace impellers every spring, and find no difference. At startup, if the water is not above the cavitation plate by at least 6 inches on my pair they refuse to prime. Once I have flow it never stays an issue? Sounds like you need to spend the $16-$20 and get a new impeller.

I am pretty sure it was replaced two years ago and stored indoors and only used less than total 20hrs each summer. I will check into this.
