Overheat Buzzer stay on!

Hi all! My Father-n-law has a 1993 Mariner 135. He turned the ignition key on yesterday and the alarm buzzer in the console went off. The motor started and the alarm continued a solid horn. I think I remember that the solid chirp is heat and the intermitant chirp is oil level. I told him by phone to trace the tan (heat I think) wire to the motor to try to locate the sensor. Can someone tell me where it would be and what it look like? The two wires connected to the alarm are tan and purple and they are each wired in series with other under the console. Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

The tan wire routes through the control set and the engine harness to a terminal block on the starboard side above the switchboxes. At that point a lead from the oil alert module, and a lead from the overheat switch come to it.

Disconnect those wires, and the alarm should shut off. If it doesn't there's a short to ground in the wiring. If it does, then connect back the oil and the heat wires one at a time. The one that sets off the alarm goes to the faulty part.

Thanks for the reply John! Does this terminal block contain only the three leads being heat (tan) and overheat (?) and oil (purple or blue)?

Usually there's 2 terminals. 1 has the 3 alarm leads on it (heat, oil, and buzzer). The other has power to the oil module on it, usually purple.

If you have a wet back 40 amp voltage regulator, the power wire may be routed differently.
