Overheat horn

I have a push button horn under my dash which I never use. I don't have a buzzer for an overheat alarm. I want to use my horn as my alarm. I have the sensor in my block with a orange wire running all the way up to the dash. That's where it ends. From other posts, I read the if I put 12 volts to one side of the horn, then the sensor wire on the other side. If the block would overheat the the sensor would throw a ground making the horn sound. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Overheat horn

You can easily use your horn as the warning buzzer. Just run the orange wire that comes from the thermoswitch on the cylinder head to the terminal on your horn where the ground is connected already. Run a 12 volt jumper wire from the other horn terminal to a source linked to your ignition switch so that when you have the ignition energized you are getting 12 volts to the horn. So if your motor overheats the horn will sound and if you want to use your horn as normal you can do that too. Make sure all connections are clean, neat, tight etc. Don't just twist wire ends together and cover with electrical tape. Hope this makes sense to you and helps a bit. Good luck!

Re: Overheat horn

That makes sense. I learned along time ago about just twisting wires, now I solder then electical tape everything. Thanks for the advise.
