i have a 2002 oxx66 225 Yamaha and sometimes not all the time the alarm will go of for engine temp [high] at idle. it did it a couple of times last year when I was at a low idle in gear going into the dock I could put it in neutral and raise the idle it would go away. So this year I changed the thermostats and put a new water pump in the tell tale is strong it gets better when you rev the engine a little but it still looks to be fine when just idling So my question is could it be a temp sensor going bad I don't have a temp gauge so I don't know what the true engine temp is when it alarms is there a way to find that out ? any help would be appreciated thanks

Re: overheat question

PRV may be sticking open and dumping too much water at lower RPM
