repowered my 1979 5.7 after a good cruise the boat pins the temp gauge when i return to the slip and idle? i have good water flow to the engine, new water pump. belts tight. i here air bubbles in the hoses to the manifolds when it over heats which i guess is just steam. any clues? thanks in advance steven

Re: overheating 5.7L

how old are your risers and manifolds? if your pump is good you are getting water into the engine, but if it can't get out it will just get recirculated through there and soak up heat....eventually start to boil, which is what you are hearing in the hoses.

check to be sure they aren't plugged up. do you have fresh water cooling (heat exchanger) or raw water cooling?

its raw water cooling, new manifolds but old risers which were never a problem in the past?
