Re: overheating engine

It would have been a good idea to have gotten some compression readings before you pulled the heads ricardo. How do the walls of the cylinders look? See any scoring or places that look like they have been wiped?

You definitly need to clean all the scale out of the t-stat areas and from around the cylinders as best you can. Then replace the t-stats and gaskets. If any other parts of the t-stat assemblies look bad, replace them also...such as diaphrams and seats.

And go back and read Joe Reeves post on the water deflectors.

I think that you should use whatever you have or can get to clean up that scale: saltaway; dishwasher detergent; vinegar; TSP; whatever. Then replace everything in the thermostat housing with BRP replacements. See or email a dealer for the newest parts.

Any scale or carbon acts to insulate. Eventually the cooling water cannot do enough and the lack of functional thermostats is just the icing on the cake.
