hello.. I have a 1989 Formula 29 PC with twin 350 mags -alpha 1 outdrives .. the impellers spun off the brass hubs in the out drive and engine overheating. impellers and housings were brand new. mechanic possibly thinks there is to much back pressure --and said something about the oil coolers. any ideas or opinions would help-if more info needed pls let me know Thanks Cool It

Re: overheating

So mechanic says he will back flush system to make sure everthing is flowing correctly . he says the oil coolers could be clogged. or maybe a restriction somewhere else. if all is clear then put in new impellers and try again. other than that he says there really should not be any other reason that the impellers should spin off hub.. any other opinions would be great. Thanks Cool it

Re: overheating

You had simulaneous impeller failures on both of your engines??? What are the chances of that?
Both engines overheated? At the same time?
You should try to be very specific.

Re: overheating

Have 8 impellers that did the same thing, Sierra claims to have fixed the problem and you may have old stock yet.

Ayuh,... OEM, or Aftermarket,..??

You got Junk Parts, not excessive back-pressure...

new aftermarket for sure

merc doesn't use brass hubs on their impellers - you got junk parts, not "back pressure"

stick with OEM parts and you will have a lot fewer issues like this one
