While this is not funny due to the loss of a life, this is the result of putting 60 people on a boat designed for 30.

Kelowna Houseboat flips

One of the stupidest things I've seen and pretty lucky there was not a greater loss of life.

Re: Overloading

The owner of the boat and the boat captain should be punish for flouting the law. He/she should know better than to allow more people onbard than the legal allowed. Accident waiting to happen. Stupidity cannot be excused.

Re: Overloading

From what I understand, the party boat was a rental. Whoever rented the boat out is in huge trouble, even if he told them the capacity of the boat.

Plus, you get a bunch of drunk kids on a party boat, and it's a disaster just waiting to happen, Had this not happened right at the dock, more lives would have been lost.

I predict the boat rental company is about to close its doors and that lawsuits will begin almost immediately.

Re: Overloading

Having a discussion on that. Am wondering who is going to be found at fault. Whats not clear yet is whether the company provided a captain or whether the renters provided him. There was (apparently) a captain and 1 crew member but it's unclear who paid them.

Either way, someone is going to get sued for someone else's stupidity.

I usually go out of my way to avoid RENTALS on the lake. Idiots on them usually have no concept of safety.

Re: Overloading

I have been to the lake, about once a year, and there is always lots of people on those rental boats.
It was just a matter of time before something like this happened.
There is always about 5-20 houseboats on one beach and LOTS of people.
I have seen these people just drive up on the beach at full blast, then when it is time for them to leave, they have another house boat tow them off of the beach and away they go. A bunch of bonehead teenagers(most of them).
Too bad though!

When i go to the lake it is to fish, i make it a point to stay the hell away from humans.

I just wish that i could apply the same rules to driving on the roads.

Re: Overloading

Re: Overloading

Nope. Went right over. Was sitting for a couple days upside down before they righted it.

The boat was rated for 30 or so, so they didn't have 60 PFD's. The girl who died was in the bathroom when it went over and could not get out quick enough.
