hello<br /><br /> my two friends and I just bought a 24 foot cabin cruser 1989 Marathon. (we are girls and have never owned a boat before...we bought a jet ski last year and loved it... so we decided to buy a boat)<br />the question is can anyone tell me were to get an owners manual for this boat or a web site that tells beginners how to operate a boat.....things like how long do batteries last before you have to charge them...flushing out the motor...ect.<br /><br />thank you for any help you can give<br />Laurie

Laurie, You can probably order a manual for your motor right from this site or numerous other places on the internet. I bought one on ebay. As far as any questions about boats you have come to the right place. The people here can answer any questions you may have. Happy boating. <br /><br />Rich

congtrats laurie :D <br />24' is a big boat to start out with. I HIGHLY<br />recommend a USCG boater safety course for you<br />and your friends, it can be a lifesaver...<br />good luck and safe boating!<br />M.Y.

May I suggest that you take a Boater Safety course, not a PWC course but a course aimed at boat owners.

Laurie:<br />The boat safety courses really help. Also I see you are in Maryland, if you are boating in the Chesapeak Bay I would invest in carts of your local waters. Some of the harbor channels and river channels can be rather confusing and there can be alot of commercial traffic. There are many places on the Bay that get shallow very quickly when you stray from the channel. Good Luck and have a great time on the water.

Lauriee,<br />No problem, Just give me a call and I'll take all three of you out and give you all the help I can... <br /><br />Seriously, you have come to the right place for help...<br />In regards to batteries you'll need to invest in a good charger. You're cranking (starting battery) probably won't need charging ever (hence the alternator), but if you have a trolling battery or other battery that powers secondary equipment that will need charging occasionally. A good charger will tell you how much charge it has and will charge it up within a handfull of hours when needed... Occasionally (once a season at least) you want to run down a trolling battery all the way so it doesn't develope a memory which will shorten it's life and effectiveness.

thanks to everyone who replied....My friends and I are definitly taking a boaters safety course....I know that a 24 foot boat is big, but they say bigger is better.. :p ..just kidding <br />It was such a good deal we couldn't pass it up!!<br /><br />this is a great web site!!! :cool: <br />P.S.<br />Does anyone have any suggestions for a name for our boat?? Friend used to have a Marathon. Not that big a boat. Especially for three people. Does it have a swim platform? If so, forget the kicker. I think the way to go is to get towing insurance (Boat US or whatever the local co. is) Along with a dependable radio. (Vhf, not a stereo :D ) And you'll be fine. Now get out there and enjoy the rest of the season. <br /><br />Capt'n Mike<br /><br />PS hmmm, 3 girls? name? Three Gulls? Sea Goils? :p

I never pass up bikini's, I mean a stranded boat..... :p I think a bikini is better than a kicker. BTW, any info you need about boating is located right on this site. You have just joined the friendliest most knowledgeable boat forum on the net. Welcome aboard!<br />Boat name: WET DREAM
