Re: Owner's Manual

hey degree......

thats one heck of a first bote!

looks great.
sounds like you got the head to do things right.
you said when she gets on plane hang on.....
what kind of speed we talkin here????

there is one thing with that rig that kinda worries me tho.

thoes are twin 454 mags....330 hp right?.....
alpha 1 drives gen 2?
what im thinking is the alpha drives are good to 300 ponies....
there was a few years that they put in better grade gears (from my understanding) but for the most part the are good to 300 hse not much more.
you might want to take it easy and not "nail it" but work the throttels slow and smooth. you dont want to gernade the drives.
uasually 454s are coupled with bravo 1s or volvo pentas.

the upgrade is substancial $$$$:(

cheers

Re: Owner's Manual

I suppose I should have said that I ease the throttles in (quickly) as opposed to 'slamming' them open...

I am painfully aware of the shortcomings associated with my Alphas (sigh), but I do plan to upgrade them to Bravos eventually--like when I hit the lottery. LOL...

As far as speed goes...

I have no idea. The speedo doesn't work yet (first on my repair list), but I used to have a Harley and the wind pulling on my face feels like about 60-65 mph.

Re: Owner's Manual

Hi all- BRAND new to boating myself... not just owning! I googled for a 1983 Shamrock owners manual & came across this site. I saw people talking about also finding literature/owner manuals etc for older boats & thought this link I found might be helpful. Their list in PDF is pretty substantial & you can also 'request' what you are needing. They do charge but seems nominal to me? Here it is: http://www.vmsl.com/lit.html'
Just aquired this 20' 1983 Shamrock with center console. Totally re-fiberglassed & has a 351 Ford engine rebuilt... but thats about it! Talk about a project?!
Hope that links helps some else who's searching. I/ll be back with MANY Q's I'm sure.
Cathy

Anyone know the best book on marine wiring/electrical etc? (total... not a wire or battery on it!)?
Also any experts with Hydraulic steering out there??? Trying to figure out parts to get for my size boat/engine etc.... I do have a TELEFLEX cylinder- BA150-7ATM which would like to use. Thanks
