I have a 1999 262 Monterey mostly off white in color. The original owner I dont think ever waxed it. So it looks kinda dull. I have wet sanded most of the top area's and then buffed it with mild compound it looks ok at best. Any other idea's before I tear into the sides and back.

What grit did you use when wet sanding? If the gelcoat is pretty far gone (cloudy and dull) I would start with 600, go over it again with 1000 and should be able to buff from that point. A little bit of dish soap mixed in the water helps to get a little more distance out of the paper.. It's a tedious task, but once done it should be good for many years providing you do an annual light buff and wax each Spring. A product line that I am very partial towards is Meguiars (their marine line). They sell a 3 part kit that includes an oxidation remover (buffing compound), a hand polish to replenish the oils in the gelcoat and a wax. Here is a link to this kit; most marinas will carry this.. http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+M4965 Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any Q's

Make sure to do your buffing with a wool polishing pad. Start off with medium pressure on the pad at slow speed (on edge; about 45 degree angle), as it starts to dry a bit ease off on the pressure and bump up the speed. When it's almost completely dry ease off even more, increase speed and run the pad flat. This will give an excellent finish.
