Re: Oxidation repair

Welcome to iBoats!

Pics would really help us to help you. The severity of the oxidation will determine the solution to your problem. Could be anything from buffing with compound to wet sanding and major elbow grease.

I'm just sayin...:D

Re: Oxidation repair

I'm in the same "boat" so to speak. My 89 Wellcraft 190 classic is in great shape, but some of the color is oxidizing and turning chalky. I would love to get it to as bright as possible. I've attached a few pictures. I'm looking over the forum posts and looking for additional insight.

Re: Oxidation repair

The oxidation needs to be sanded off before you buff or prime to paint. Sand with 600 then 800, 1000, 1200, 1500. Then buff. If its good you're all set. If you want it better, prime and paint. Most of what you will be sanding off is all the crap thats on top of the gelcoat, it will be a bit of effort to get to the gel coat. You'll know cause the dust will be the gel color instead of grey.

Re: Oxidation repair

I personally think we need more information ... Pics for shure :)

Sometimes sand and buff...sometimes just buff. It just depends from boat to boat.

YD.
