the paint on my boat is fairly oxidized, does anyone have any tips on:
(1) whether fiberglass boats shine up w/ cleaner wax like cars do;
(2) what type of cleaner wax to use; and
(3) best method of restoring the paint?

much obliged

Try using 1000 grit wet sandpaper. Make sure to keep it wet. You can sand out the old dried out gel coat. Sand until you start seeing the color run out in the water, and all of the white residue is gone. Buff it out with a power buffer and rubbing compound followed by several coats of boat wax. Automovtive wax works but doesn't last as long as the marine formulas. I used this method a restored red gel coat from white back to a deep red. The gel coat with the color in it is thicker than you think.

Thanks - I've heard that Meguiars is good. My 3M retorer/wax doesn't seem to be working all that well.

Yes.. We talk about the vasline alot I used it and it brought the color back to new. Mine was bad and I used a hull cleaner then dryed the boat used compound, wax then vasline and it came out great. Wish I took before and after pics.
