Ok, now that I have this Jeep thing straightened out, my next question is what is my best choice for a front brake pad/rotor combo that would be best in this stop and go situation?

Something that will get rid of heat is good I know, but what set-up would be good?
Non-ABS.
Thanks.

Try this site:

http://www.powerslot.com/products.htm

Got this info off of a Suburban Forum. Many claim these to be the best thing that you can do to improve breaking performance and pad life. Suburbans have a lot of problem with both.

Thanks. Just my luck. Don't make them for my application. :(

OEM rotors and "Performance Friction Carbon Metallic" pads...

My 2 cents.. The slotted, drilled, frozen, and whatever other else they try to sell you on, total waste of money... With a stock braking system, you will see absolutely no diference in braking performance with these "performance" rotors unless your jeep is a formula 1 race car..

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt...

Yeah the Mercedes S class has drilled rotors and it was explained at training it was for looks only.

OEM rotors that are new or in near new condition, not turned, and OEM pads. They are about as good as you can get SBN. I'll be the biggest bang for your buck even if it cost a little more.

Snapperbait is on to something. That's the combo I run on all my vehicles. The pads are available at AutoZone adn carry a lifetime warranty. They stop much better than the oem pads.

I know OEM parts are suppose to be the best going, but was just thinking that when they make a vehicle, they don't make it with stop and go work in mind so I don't know if they have that built in their stuff.

Re: Pad/Rotor Combo

Supposedly, slotted and drilled rotor are that way to removed the supposed thin film of gas that is created when the pad is creating friction with the rotors. This gas film takes away from the braking performance so they say. Any high performance braking application has slotting and holes cross drilled. Heck, even the good disc brakes on mountain bikes are cross drilled. I don't know if the whole "gas film" thing is true, it is just what I have read. I do know that OEM rotors for Jeeps are crap, the rotors on our Grand Cherokee warp if a squirrel farts....

Re: Pad/Rotor Combo

SBN I have a '98 non-ABS Cherokee. Had a brake job done at a shop at 40k miles (didn't have the time myself then) and they turned the rotors/replaced pads. Not very pleased and at about 50k miles started getting brake pulsing as the rotors warped. Jeep rotors are notoriously thin and as I've learned are generally not worth having turned down.
At 60k miles I went to autozone and bought two new front rotors and sets of pads, the cost was very reasonable. I think the whole thing cost me about 80 bucks, including new rotors, pads, couple cans of brake cleaner, and the anti squeal stuff. Whole job took me about an hour in the driveway. Now I'm at 85k miles and those brakes are still working great, very pleased with them.
