Started back in begining of November. Pain in the neck. And not werk nor the family. Came and went. Late last week right deltoid (right arm cap muscle) felt wierd, weak. Soon had trouble lifting a coffee mug fer crimeny sakes. Gotta help with the left hand to hoist a coffee mug and pretty much else. Can still wipe OK though, not that ya care to know that.

Of to docs day b4 yesterday. Seven X-rays, may be a nerve deal in spinal neck area. Then did after care at "Chuckie Cheese" fun world with the Bride and kids for therapy. Great fun (heyheyhey).

Scribed "Prednisone" steroid, and a trip for an MRI.

Gonna do the MRI deal friday. Weird though how this croped up. Don't hurt a bit......just absolutely weak. Doc claims this partial paralisis can be pinched nerve related, may go away with the steroid meds, may worsen to full partial paralisis or worse. This Doc likes to go overboard and make sure I suffer the "whoulda-coulda" torment. And I like the Doc...delivered my first Daughter..but geeeze man.....

Chit man, I cast w/ my right arm with spinning gear, shoot pistols, rifles, hammer nails, and hug my bride with that derned arm.

Anyhoo......all who feel a twinge that is out of sorts may consider getting a checkup.

I went through a 10 day period of severe neck pain last month. I went to a chiropractor who worked on me for about a week to get back to normal.

Thanks SoLittle. Deal is that the neck pain/stiffnes vanished.....then the arm went semi dead.

Whatever, will sort itself out. What a biotch over this time I have off wanting to do a bunch of Family stuff and project stuff.

A funny is putting in contacts and shaving! Never imagined how dominant armed I am. Can type, hunt and peck OK though!.

I hope that works itself out quickly.

Chiropractic is a good option to consider. A few years ago, I hurt my back, med DR. put me on heavy pain meds, Chiropractor had me up and going in a couple of weeks.

I had the same thing with the extreme weakness in my arm. It started out with neck pain and then very weak. I couldn't do anything with it. I went to a massage therapist about 3 times and now the strength has returned and no more pain.

My mattress is quite hard and I think sleeping on my side with a poor pillow led to the problem. Massage therapist suggested a new pillow and it seems to be okay now.

I had the same thing, pjc. I have been a true believer in Chiropractic medicine all of my life... until this. I had a herniated disc in my neck and it was putting pressure on the nerve. Incredible pain! Saw a specialist, had the disc removed and replaced and since I woke up from the surgery, No pain! I did go to the Chiropracter numerous times for this and had X-rays, MRI, acupuncture, etc., none of which helped. I don't want to rant on the bone-crackers but I haven't been to one since, and I'm doing great. Good Luck, SBC.

I fractured C-5 and C-6 about 10 years ago and didn't have any immediate numbness or pain following my accident however, the past several years are another story. My arms, hands and fingers go numb and I suffer with chronic neck pain. I will eventually have to undergo surgery. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done by a chiropractor. Of course, I went to a chiropractor first to try and avoid surgery, but no luck.

For temporary relief, I have to hang myself from a door with my neck in a sling with 8 pounds of water hanging on the other side of it for about 30 minutes. Mr. LF thinks its pretty funny. My PT told me about this method of relieving pressure from the spine and it was something I could do from home. It might look funny but it works.

Best of luck to you pjc.

Hope everything works out for ya PJ. The wife has back pain every day. Her muscles and nerves got screwed up in a car wreck.

Don't get me started on chiropractors

If it's a problem that a chiropractor can alleviate, then you really should have it done. Those kinds of spinal problems, if left uncorrected, can eventually lead to arthritis, severe nerve damage, and other maladies.

Had a friend that became temporarily paralyzed on one side of his body. They say it was a virus that did it. Good thing you are going to the docs so they can hopfully figure this out quickly!

Pjc – when you find out what it is let us know. I’ve got $20 riding on a diagnoses of tennis elbow. It’s the funny-bone nerve running across the elbow, inflames and is compressed in bone groove. Manifests as pain anywhere from the back of the shoulders, neck, to the wrist. It also results in a painless loss of strength in the hand muscles.

Common cause: ergonomics. Your keyboard ain’t where it needs to be, you’re stressing the nerve across the elbow.

Wait ‘til the doc goes to test how compressed the nerve is. [hee-hee] He’s going to turn you into a human voltmeter. [hee-hee] But wait! It gets better. The doc also needs something ‘normal’ to compare the voltage reading to...you know that perfectly good arm you have? Well, it's normal. [hee-hee] And don’t leave your hand in your lap when the doc shoots the current down your arm. You will have involuntary muscle contractions. You might grab and yank on something important that you had wanted to keep. Leave you hand on the table or you might be leaving the doc’s office singing alto.
:D

I tried most of the stuff mentioned above. Had the same thing LadyFish has. Did the water thing too but after a while it quit helping. Went to a nuerosurgeon and had the operation in july of this year. They go through the front of your neck for the proceedure. In my case it was very successful. The pain is now gone in my arms and I have full movement and strength back in my arm, fingers, and neck. Good luck pjc

Re: Pain In The Neck For Two Months, Now Arm Half Dead?

No results will be known until Tuesday or so of next week I was told. The outfit that did the MRI is a specialty shop. "Center for Diagnostic Imaging". They process the data somehow and forward that to my doc. Am sure hoping whoever crunches the data is a Neurologist, etc.

Is driving me nuts trying to point to an event that "shocked" my neck. I on occasion do bang my melon into whatever, and the jerking reaction may be what set this off. Just can't recall any one deal that felt odd. And like you I reef on BAWs (big azzd wrenches) from time to time but can't recall any particular strain or rip or pull that was unusual.

Happy New Year heycods!! and ALL :)
