Paint removal from hull?

I have a bit of a problem. I'd left my boat in a yard over the winter and when I went to take it out today I discovered my neighbour had decided to paint the adjoining fence using a spray gun. Ended up giving my boat a fair spraying too. So I'm looking for something that would remove the paint (don't know what type it is) without damaging the gelcoat or hull. Any suggestions?

err what kind of paint? Are you friends with this neighbor? If not, Take your neighbor to small claims court for destruction of property.

That's the thing, I don't know. And I'd rather try and fix it myself if I can than confront them and have it get confrontational.

Lacquer thinner should do it. Just put some on a rag and wipe it carefully.

I would start with mild solvents like Mineral Spirits, Paint Thinner, Kerosene, Diesel Fuel, WD-40 before going with an aggresive solvent like Lacquer Thinner.
Did you try plain soap and water?
Maybe as a last resort to use some paint remover.
I have a camper with the fiberglass side, One day I brushed against a painted fence post leaving a paint marks on the camper, I dabbed a little paint remover on a rag and polished the paint off the camper.

don't start off suing him, and I'd probably advise against it no matter whae he does. But at least tell him and give him a chjance to make good. However, supervise him; we know he's not a good painter and you'd hate to come around the corner and see him with a belt sander...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll get a few bits and pieces together and give it a blast soon. Fingers crossed.
