Re: paint winch

I didnt paint mine because it still has some zinc plating on it, but I painted everything else on the trailer, chain's, coupler, bow stop, dolly wheel and jack. :D

I would not gob paint all over the ratcheting drum dog or the nylon strap but I would give the rest a good coat.

Re: paint winch

the winch was painted factory, not galvanized or zinc plated. i have an empty drum on it right now and plan on using rope since its a small boat. will i have any trouble with painting it?

Re: paint winch

No reason not to paint it. Just don't put on so much paint that you gum up the shafts where the crank and drum turn.

Re: paint winch

that was my only concern. ill just remove it from the trailer and paint it that way. the trailer is long overdue for a painting. 75% black from rust reformer. instead of the white

Re: paint winch

Just painted mine with a rattle can of galavnizing zinc paint. Did much of the trailer with that stuff. Works good but a bit pricey. Rustoleum should work too. Just get rid of the rust thats on there. There is some kind of jelly (forget what it called) that you can smear on there and the rust wipes off. There is also some other stuff that actually converts rust back into a solid metal like material.
