Paint?

I have searched has anyone rolled and tipped a metal flake paint
before and had good results? I ask because I saw a killer paint at the
auto parts store that has metal flake in it and it would finish off my boat quite
well. Or is it best to spray this paint on?
Anyway let me know your opinions.

Thanks

Re: Paint?

That paint is designed to be sprayed.

Ayuh,... Even then it's a Bytch,....
Gotta put a couple ball bearings, or marbles in the paint cup to keep it in suspension....

Re: Paint?

Can anyone recommend a roll on paint in a candy color or some other
nice and shiney color. Cause I have never sprayed metal flake before.

Re: Paint?

Do you mean metal flake or metallic paint?

Re: Paint?

I did my top sides with Rustoleum "Metallics" and I was very pleased with it and with the amount of flake in it.

Re: Paint?

Did you use the spray can or other? How has it held up and did you clear it or just leave it uncleared? Any pics of the paint job?

I used spray cans and cleared it with Rustoleum clear also in a spray can. Here's a picture. Not a good one though. Dirty camera lens and it doesn't show the metallic too well.

Damn good out of a spray can...

To the op, you'd be surprised how nice of a paint job you can manage with decent two art polyurethane a small shop compressor and a $20 harbor freight gun.

The paint may cost more than the rest of what you need. the key is to get the prep work right and make sure you degrease it way past the point you think might be reasonable. I konw it's herasy to suggest using something like dupont nasson auto pant on a boat... but their single stage urethane is really easy to shoot, has great gloss and is far harder than any non-catalyzed paint like rustoleum or brightsides, etc...

It also makes great engine paint... especially pretty in mercury racing blue.

Thank you for your opinion as I'm looking for all options to spruce up my
pring project so it's ready for water very shortly.

Re: Paint?

It's pretty much been said already but I would find a way to spray your metallic paint. Metalflake won't come out right if brushed because the reflectives lay down and pattern, and even metallic can "pattern" in the finish when brushed. The paint may "level out" but the metallic doesn't always flow with it.

Re: Paint?

Alright sounds good. I can spray it I just have to many other projects in the
shop right now and was just seeing if I could roll it. That way I won't have to
rearrange everything in the shop to paint the boat.
