hey guys..... this weekend I painted my 1977 sea ray 200 .... i sanded it pretty well and rolled on some rustoleum..... I wasnt lookfor perfect, just something to not make it look so 70's :).... the over all result i am very happy with.... how long does it take to fully dry? its seems dry to the touch, but i can still scratch the paint off if i try with my nail.... also another thing, its suppose to rain here, start tomorrow for the next two days..... should i cover the boat with a blue tarp tonight, of is it ok open? I hope its going to dry harder, i figure ill have to wait about two to three weeks before using the boat, but im just a little worried especially with the rain coming.....

If you can lay your hand on the paint and nothing drastic happens then you should be just fine.
In reference to your paint drying - please don't confuse drying time with bonding time. Paint will always dry a whole lot faster before it properly bonds to the mating surface. Hence your fingernail scratch test.
It won't hurt to cover it if it will make you feel better but try and keep anything ( your covering material ) from laying on that fresh paint.
Here's to summer !!!!:D

If the paint is dry to the touch but comes off easily with a fingernail scratch i got to ask if you used a good primer/ right paint?
Was it wood, fiberglass, aluminum?
Different primers (primer very important) & paint for different applications:rolleyes:

Rustoleum can take a couple weeks to a month to cure, don't worry it will harden up just takes time.
