Is it okay to wait a week after etching primer on bare aluminum to then do the bare metal primer?
I'm trying to follow the steps posted in these forums, but I don't remember if there was a maximum time frame between etching primer until the second step of bare metal primer.

I'll go back and see if I can find anything about this.
But I'm thinking I should be fine by just scuffing it with some light grit.
I'm going to go with the Rust-Oleum clean metal primer, and finally an oil based enamel.
.
I'll post back if I find the answer.

Sand, before priming wash with light acid wash, prime shortly thereafter, paint. I used brush/ roller on aluminum Feathercraft using Total Boat bottom and topside paint. Came out wonderful. use good masking tape for metal finishes that are not a polished finish.

Auto paint stores make a primer -etcher. Make sure topcoat is urethane 2-part paint(color and hardener) . If using etcher alone, read instructions on can.

I've been using this method:
.
I've always had really good results using Rust-Oleum Oil Base Enamel.
It holds up very well.
.
But I have never applied it during the cold wet season. I want to keep my boat usable from spring through fall.
.
I'm curious if anyone has used Rust-Oleum in temperatures and humidity lower than the instruction's recommendations.
.
I'm thinking cooler and higher humidity will just create a longer cure time, but for a old boat it'll be good enough.
.
Thoughts?

I had Sherwin Williams match my boat color with their oil-base enamel.
It goes on a little thinner than Rustoleum, but I feel better about using it at the temperatures we'll be having here for the next week.
I didn't want to put it off too long, because I want to get out fishing.

sorry for the late reply, when painting your aluminum boat did you use the same paint type for the whole exterior? I am about to begin repainting my boat and wasn't sure if i needed a separate paint for above and below the waterline.
