Hi all.

Winter is finally over and I've been working on my project glastron again. I have the bottom of the hull prepped and ready for primer and paint. I have decided on Interlux Brightside (the boat will be trailered and not spend more than an overnight in the water). I plan to apply the finish using the roll and tip method.

My question is how to lay off with the brush when my surface has the ridges (chines) running the length of the bottom?

Perhaps crabbait will have some insight??

Re: Painting bottom with chines

I do not want to discourage you from Interlux, but I just used Interlux Dark Blue on my homemade boat and its been dry for near 2 months now.. the finish really isnt durable, and it hasnt even left the garage yet, to top it off I applied 4 coats of their primer before hand. yet I already have areas to touch up from items making contact with the paint.

My last boat I used Pettit paints and I am 110% happy with the results, very very durable paint- I used the boat hard and the boat in the garage that hasnt even seen water yet has more wear on it already. Pettit paints look glossy, gel coat like if you will, mine still does even after 3 seasons.

If you have used Interlux before and you like it obviously use what your comfortable with, but I myself will go back with Pettit paints.

-John

Re: Painting bottom with chines

Thanks for the response Johnshan. I have used interlux brightside white with good results. I don't know if the darker colors perform differently or not.

The last boat I painted was a smooth hull, so laying vertically off was easy with the brush. My concern is that i cannot do this with my hull due to the chines.
