I resently sanded the paint off my engine cover and then painted, buffed and now I'm ready to spray a clear coat of of Tempo Maine paint. Can someone tell me if this is the right process?

Re: Painting engine cover

I recently repainted a 60 hp cover for the first time. It was in horrible shape. I sanded it, repaired the fiberglass. resanded and put several coats of primer. i used automotive primer off the shelf. color coated with auto color coat off the shelf. Then finished the job with clear coat. I'm professs to be the best paint man by any means, but it sure looks great, and is holding up very well. Remember to sand between coats.<br />2 coats of primer and 2 coats of color.

I can see where I went wrong already. I just sanded, then painted. Do you think I can get away with that?

the primer prepares the surface for the paint. If you are lucky you'll get by. It's important to sand between coats as this also helps adhesion.

Is this a fiberglass or an aluminum hood?
