Hello folks.... Novice here.... I am going to be restoring a 1964 Lone Star Triton. It is equipped with a 40 HP "Rude" (Lark VI). Just finished the engine details...runs nice and strong. A few questions:

Painting hull- Can I do a descent job with a brush??
Drum Steering- Rebuild- What diameter of cable should be used, ¼ or 3/16 ??
Run time / Fuel usage: I have an internal 20 gallon tank… How long will the run time be per 5 gallons??
Does anyone have any history on this model? I understand it to be a bi-hull, inner and outer being fiberglass with a foam fill in.
Being fully fiberglass, does that mean my only rot point should or would be the transom?
Any other owners of like boat with any pointers??

Many thanks to all of you. I would not have started my new hobby had I not found IBoats…Go IBoats!!!!!

I attached a photo of as brochure....

Sam

Regarding the steering cable: if you want to retain the OEM drum cable setup, buy a new steering cable. They are available, along with the wheels and other hardware. The drum cables are generally plastic coated to prevent rust and make them run smooth.

Regading the boat: If it is foam fill, check to see if the foam is water logged. Drill a few holes in the floor to do inspection. A two inch hole saw will work. If the foam is dry, epoxy the cut out piece back in. Otherwise, soaked foam is a commom problem in old boats. Replace it all.

Regarding the paint, many have successfully painted using the roll and tip method (do a search in this forum). I personally prefer to spray, but many have acheived good results with the roll & tip.
