I have a 1981 16 foot starcraft - the paint is original and never been repainted - I used to paint in automotive, so I will be spraying the boat - any suggestions on paint products? I will be painting the boat white. I also have to paint outside as I have no other alternative.

Automotive paint should be fine. Some people even use latex and it holds up. If you're experienced painting cars, you should have no trouble painting your boat. As you already know, preparation is 90% of a good paint job.

I decided to go with a paint by coronada called rust scat - so far its been working great, except dry time is a little longer than I wanted 3-4 hours. By the next day you can wet or drysand the paint to take care of any blemishes - and you can recoat within 24 hours. The paint is a polyurethane enamel - so its not that expensive - about 15$ per quart plus thinner.
