Painting my boat - primer down now

OK so last night i finished priming my boat(after a good sanding. I am only painting above the rub rail, so tonight i will do a light sanding and then get started painting. I have not ever painted a boat before.....so I am nervous as hell! I am using the roll and tip method. Here is my thinking, first tip all edges, corners and then roll the rest. Once it dries completly (over night) I will do a light wet sand, and then do the same process all over again for second coat. I know its not going to be perfect, but to be honest I do expect it to be dang close. I believe I bought the self leveling, so that should take out a majority of my "orange peel", but a thought that has been going through my head is.......the areas I have to use the brush, and then the areas I use the roller....will it be a huge noticable difference when in the sun light? Thanks any help would be great. I have read a ton of threads on painting.

It's my understanding that after rolling the paint on you go back over it all lightly with a badger hair brush. The pros will be along shortly and will have questions i.e. Whats the hull made of, type of paint your using, what primer did you use etc.

I struggled with this myself but sprayed.

Yep, type of paint and Roller and brushes is important. Let us know what you're using and we can guide you through it.

Ok, I have used that a lot in the past. You can add a hardener to it if you want. Makes it a lot more durable. I prefer the Roll n' Roll method. Check the last link in my signature below. It has a lot of helpful details for you. Valspar and Rustoleum are almost identical paint so the methods are the same.

Thanks W.O.G., i have looked through a ton of your post.....all very helpfull! I must have missed it somewhere when i was reading. I have my rubrail taped, also anything i don't want painted airvent (unable to unscrew) also window sidings, so in areas where I can not get the roller.....and I have to use a brush, will their be a noticble difference between the two types of methods of paint? If I could I would spray, but 1) dont have one 2) I have no doubt I would screw it up more somehow. Thanks I will take pictures tonight before and after first coats.
