painting old starter

having old engines remanned pulled starter pretty rusted what is best way to clean and repaint? thanks rdsr

Could try a wire wheel, then primer and paint with Rustolium. If you want something more durable, try the "hammered metal" finish paints from Rustolium. I used them on shop tools (vice, bench grinder, etc) with good results. Takes a week or more before fully hard. But it is hard.
