Painting outdrive

I have some corroded spots on my drive and gimble housing that I want to touch up, after I clean them out and apply a zinc chromate primer can I paint over with a Rustoleum paint of do I need to use the paint they sell for the outdrive. I also see that Rustoleum make a primer for aluminum can that be used or is that different from the zinc chromate. Thanks

zinc chromate is fine as a primer. you can use any enamel paint, the outdrive stuff may cost a little more.

Thanks, whats the deal with the primer does it only adhere well to bare metal or can you use it over soem of the existing paint.

the primer will be fine over some existing paint. it would be nearly impossible to get it only on the metal in a touch-up job.
